Luca Lorenzon starts his experience in D.B. Group with an internship in the Audit department, necessary to conclude his studies. With the Global Talent Programme, he was offered the opportunity of moving to New York, in the D.B. Group America branch office with the goal of supporting the colleagues by exporting some functions of the HQ audit department also in the American branches.
THREE ADJECTIVES TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF:
Accommodating, cheerful and motivated: motivation is one of the qualities that mainly helped me in achieving this goal. I strongly believe that nowadays with motivation you can accomplish anything.
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL AND CAREER PATH:
Once graduated in accounting, I continued my studies obtaining a Bachelor Degree in International Trade. My course offered the great opportunity of carrying out an internship abroad, therefore I flew to New York at Bastianich&Batali Hospitality Group: living and working in that international context has been the greatest experience to start building my professional career.
Back to Italy, I began my Master’s Degree in Treviso, with a focus on internationalization of businesses. To conclude my path, I aimed at finding an internship in-line with my studies and with the possibility of being employed once obtained my degree.
Therefore, I started my experience in D.B. Group with an internship in the headquarters audit department (in Montebelluna), with Matteo Panziera and Elisa Cremasco as tutors. My team’s support and willingness have been fundamental for me, as I could learn how to use tools that were completely new to me and understand how to independently manage my activities.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO APPLY FOR THE GLOBAL TALENT PROGRAMME?
When I started my internship in D.B. Group, I shared my international approach and my willingness to undertake experiences abroad.
Thus, one day chatting with Donatella, Head of Corporate Shared Services, we evaluated together the chance of moving to New York to support the management by exporting some functions of the audit department in D.B. Group America.
The greatest motivation was the possibility of living in a multicultural environment; a working experience in New York means not only a wonderful opportunity for your professional career, but also an important chance for your personal growth.
3 THINGS THAT YOU BROUGHT WITH YOU IN AMERICA:
Pictures of friends and family, food, enthusiasm and my country’s history.
Concerning my job experience, I took with me the skills acquired during my experience in D.B. Group Italy, which I tempted to transfer in America as in New York my mission was that of representing the Audit department, which up to then had not been present.
SOME TIPS TO YOUNG PEOPLE ARRIVING IN D.B. GROUP:
Be patient, curious and always ask without any fear when there is something new to learn: there are lots of concepts that we get to know studying our books at university, but when you land in a company you get scared until you don’t go through them.
WHICH WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT THING OF YOUR TRANSFER?
The most difficult things: surely find an apartment where to feel at home, making new friends and concluding my dissertation with the fast pace of working that I found in New York.
Moving to a new reality, where you do not know anybody, you do not know the city and the new working environment it is not easy at all but it is normal. You only need to be committed to create your own new home with new habits.
I was very lucky on this with amazing colleagues, who helped me a lot to settle in, even greeting me to their home for Christmas.
AND THE MOST THRILLING:
New York is crazy and astonishing. You always feel alive: a multi-ethnic environment, where people feel free to express themselves as they see fit; also in the office our team presents different cultures and every day we discover something new.
New York is a city that offers thousands of opportunities, from rooftops’ parties to smooth rides in the country. There’s a lot to discover and nobody can get bored!
