The container ship Zephyr Lumos collided with the bulk carrier Galapagos, during the night between Saturday and Sunday. Both ships were proceeding in wester direction through the Strait of Malacca.
The Zephyr Lumos struck the Galapagos on the starboard side amidships, cutting a deep gash into her hull.
The initial inquiry is a possible failure of the Galapagos’ steering system, causing it to veer in front of Zephyr Lumos.
No one was injured, but the agency reported a spill later in the day.
The container ship Zephyr Lumos is brand new, received from shipyard in January 2021. Its in route from Singapore to Suez.
Our staff is constantly monitoring the situation. For additional information please contact our Ocean Import department.
We shall keep you informed about further developments.
