Update - Tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum in the USA

07 May 2018

On April 30, 2018 President Donald Trump issued new Proclamations on Adjustments to Additional Tariffs on Imports of Steel (25%) and Aluminum (10%) into the United States, effective from 23rd March 2018.
The adjustments concern the application of duties based on the country of origin of the articles.

Application of duties on steel articles:
-      May 1, 2018 through May 31, 2018: tariffs apply on articles with origin in every country except Canada, Mexico, Australia, Argentina, South Korea, Brazil and member countries of the European Union;
-      as of June 1, 2018: tariffs will apply to all countries of origin except Argentina, Australia, Brazil and South Korea.
Application of duties on aluminum articles:
-      May 1, 2018 through May 31, 2018: tariffs apply on articles with origin in every country except Canada, Mexico, Australia, Argentina, Brazil and member countries of the European Union;
-      as of June 1, 2018: tariffs will apply to all countries of origin except Argentina, Australia and Brazil.

The above-mentioned duties applications are based on the country of origin, not the country of export. For both steel and aluminum, imports of articles of United States origin are not covered by these measures.
